KsTU Hosts Florida Gulf Coast University for Strategic Talks on Academic and Research Collaboration

In a move to expand international partnerships and enhance academic excellence, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) hosted a two-member delegation from Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), USA, on Thursday, July 18, 2025, at the University’s Council Chamber.
The delegation was led by Prof. Tanya Benford, Chairman of the Department of Accounting at FGCU. She was accompanied by Prof. Daniel Acheampong, an Associate Professor of Accounting at FGCU. The team was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, together with Deans, Heads of Departments (HoDs), and senior academic staff.
The central focus of the engagement was on exploring a framework for academic collaboration between the two institutions. The discussions covered areas in Student and Staff Exchange. Both parties expressed a strong interest in creating avenues for student and faculty mobility to promote cross-cultural experiences and academic growth. The exchange programme is expected to give KsTU students and staff international exposure and research opportunities at FGCU. The two universities discussed the possibility of forming joint research teams to tackle pressing global issues. Emphasis was placed on interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The meeting discussed possibilities for co-developing academic modules and short courses, leveraging the strengths of each institution. There were also discussions on digital learning and curriculum enhancement through the integration of modern teaching tools.
As part of their presentation, the FGCU delegation introduced participants to cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools relevant to academic and administrative work. These tools, they explained, can support teaching, enhance learning outcomes, and improve research efficiency. The presentation sparked a lively question-and-answer session, where thoughtful questions on implementation, training, and contextual adaptation were raised.
In his remarks, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh lauded the visiting team for their openness and insights, emphasising that the collaboration aligns with KsTU’s vision of becoming a world-class technical university. He expressed optimism that this partnership would foster innovation and enhance the academic experience for students and staff. Furthermore, he encouraged both teams to explore new avenues for research and development, which could have a significant impact on the local community and beyond.
The visit sets the stage for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon, which will formalise the partnership and ensure sustainable academic cooperation.
